SERVICE · Pop & Bang
Pop & Bang software
Inject fuel during throttle-off to create the signature backfire crackle on overrun. Cosmetic tuning for sports cars and modded petrol engines.
Typical symptoms / why workshops apply Pop & Bang
- Want the signature throttle-lift crackle
- Already have a sports exhaust
- Petrol turbo with sufficient headroom in fuel system
What Softechpro V5 actually patches when you select Pop & Bang
- Patches the overrun fuel cut to leave a small amount of fuel injected.
- Adjusts ignition timing during overrun to ignite the fuel in the exhaust.
- Optionally widens the RPM window over which the effect triggers.
- Auto-checksum.

5-step workflow
- Read out your ECU bin file via OBD or bench (KESS3, AutoTuner, MPPS, Trasdata, Flex, FRF flasher).
- Open Softechpro V5 and drop the .bin / .ori / .hex / .s19 / .frf onto the workspace. Softechpro auto-identifies the ECU family from the header signature.
- Select Pop & Bang from the service tab.
- Hit Save patched .bin. The ECU-specific checksum is recomputed automatically.
- Flash the patched file back via your existing flasher. Reset adaptations via the OEM scan tool if required.

Frequently asked questions
Will pop & bang damage my catalyst?
Repeated unburnt-fuel cycles raise CAT temperature significantly. On a road car with stock cat the long-term damage is real. On a track car with high-flow / decat exhaust it's a non-issue.
Is pop & bang available on diesel?
No. Diesel combustion is lean-burn — there's no unburnt fuel mixture to ignite in the exhaust. The effect is petrol-only.
