EGR-off switches off exhaust gas recirculation control and its fault monitoring in the ECU so a blocked, sticking or blanked EGR valve no longer causes soot build-up, rough running or fault codes. It's a popular reliability change on diesels (and some petrols). As emissions equipment, disabling EGR is off-road/export only in most regions.
