Petrol naturally-aspirated engines have the smallest software-only tuning headroom of any fuel type. The OEM calibration is already close to the airflow and combustion limit; Stage 1 typically gains only 3-7% HP. Real NA power gains come from hardware (cams, headers, intake, ITBs) plus software optimisation around the new airflow.

Why petrol naturally-aspirated tuning responds the way it does

OEM NA petrol calibrations operate close to the limit on fueling and timing. Software alone returns 3-7% HP. Hardware-paired tuning (cams + headers + intake + tune) returns 10-20%.

Stage 1 software-only for moderate gains. CAT OFF / Pop & Bang for cars with sports exhaust. Forced-induction conversion (supercharger or turbo retrofit) is the path to large gains on NA platforms.
