A popcorn or bang-bang map is the most aggressive form of exhaust theatrics: on overrun (and sometimes at the limiter) the ECU deliberately misfires to fire fuel in the exhaust for loud, rapid bangs — the 'popcorn' effect. It's louder and harsher than a normal burble and adds significant exhaust/EGT stress, so it's strictly a show/off-road feature.
