Motorsport
A sharp fuel/ignition cut at the limiter (vs a soft fade).
Also known as: hard cut · hardcut · soft cut · soft-cut · rev cut · two step limiter · bounce off limiter · fuel cut limiter
A hard-cut rev limiter abruptly cuts fuel and/or ignition at the rev ceiling for a crisp, aggressive limiter 'bounce', compared with a soft-cut that gently fades power. Tuners choose hard or soft cut and set the limit to suit the engine and use. Hard cut is favoured for launch/two-step and a motorsport feel; it increases mechanical and exhaust stress at the limiter.
