BCM / Body / Gateway Tool
A BCM Tool is a general-purpose utility for reading, writing and coding Body Control Modules across many manufacturers. The BCM manages functions such as lighting, central locking, immobilizer authentication, comfort features and network gateway duties, so the tool is used to program keys, perform immo/PIN operations, virginize or clone a BCM, correct configuration after a module swap, and back up and restore module data. Work is done over OBD or on the bench depending on the vehicle and the module's security. Users are auto locksmiths and body-electronics repairers handling lost keys, water or crash damage, and replacement modules. Because the exact procedure and memory layout vary by brand, a BCM Tool typically supports multiple vehicle families, and correct configuration and pairing with the engine ECU are needed for the vehicle to operate normally.
Softechpro is an engine-ECU tuning/diagnostics package and does not program BCMs or keys, so it does not replace a BCM Tool. A shop would use the BCM Tool for body/immo work and Softechpro for DTC-off and emissions edits on the engine ECU.
