VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System) by Ross-Tech is the best-known aftermarket diagnostic software for Volkswagen Group vehicles, Audi, VW, SEAT, Skoda and Bentley. Paired with Ross-Tech's HEX interface, it reads and clears fault codes across all modules, displays live measuring blocks, performs output tests, and enables coding, adaptation, long coding and service functions such as electronic parking brake and service resets. It is widely used by independent workshops, specialists and enthusiasts as a near-dealer-level tool for diagnostics and retrofit coding. VCDS is Windows software tied to genuine Ross-Tech interfaces and covers most models from the 1990s through current CAN/UDS platforms. It focuses on diagnostics and coding rather than performance tuning or ECU firmware flashing.
VCDS clears fault codes on the scan tool; Softechpro can switch selected DTCs off permanently in the engine-ECU firmware and re-correct the checksum. They complement each other, VCDS for diagnostics/coding, Softechpro for firmware-level emissions/DTC edits, and Softechpro does not flash or code modules itself.
