Standalone ECU / Engine Management
rusEFI is a free, open-source engine-management platform (hardware plus firmware) that, like Megasquirt, is tuned with TunerStudio. Boards such as Hellen, Proteus and Frankenso run rusEFI firmware. Tuners edit fuel and ignition maps, configure trigger decoders for a wide range of crank/cam patterns, and set up sequential injection, ignition, boost, VVT and CAN. Because it's open source, it supports experimental, community-contributed features and a growing list of factory trigger patterns, making it popular for engine swaps and hobbyist or club-motorsport builds on a budget. TunerStudio provides the tables, dashboards and datalogging, while the rusEFI console offers deeper diagnostics. It targets no single OEM — it is a universal standalone that replaces the factory ECU.
Softechpro operates on factory OEM firmware (reflash, emissions/DTC modules, checksum correction), not on open-source standalone hardware that replaces the stock ECU. The two are complementary in a workshop: rusEFI for full standalone builds, Softechpro for the customer cars still running their original ECU.
