Bench / BSL / Boot Tool
A JTAG tool accesses an ECU's microcontroller through its JTAG debug interface to read and write flash and EEPROM on the bench. JTAG is a standardized test/debug port that, on many automotive processors, allows a programmer to halt the CPU and directly access memory, useful when OBD or boot-mode access is unavailable or when recovering a bricked unit. Tuners connect to the ECU's JTAG pads via probes or adapters and use compatible software to dump firmware, write modified files and unlock certain protected controllers. It is a category of capability found in tools like the KT200 and various bench programmers rather than a single product. Correct pinout identification and stable contact are critical to avoid corrupting the ECU.
JTAG hardware provides the low-level memory access; Softechpro Solutions works on the dumped file afterward, applying emissions/DTC-off modules and correcting the checksum. Separate stages of the same job.
