An ESL Tool works with the Mercedes ESL (Electronic Steering Lock), the same component referred to as ELV, fitted to models like the W204, W207 and W212. When the steering-lock mechanism or electronics fail, the car will not start and reports a steering-lock fault. The tool reads and renews the ESL, repairs its stored data, or personalizes a replacement so it matches the EZS/EIS security data; it is also used to set up steering-lock emulators as a permanent fix. Operations are performed on the bench with the unit removed from the column. Users are Mercedes electronics repairers and auto locksmiths. Because the ESL is part of the immobilizer chain, its data must be paired correctly with the EZS for the lock to release and the engine to start.
Softechpro does not repair steering locks or handle immobilizer pairing, so it does not overlap with the ESL Tool. It is an independent engine-ECU tuning/diagnostics tool used separately from steering-lock work.
