OEM Diagnostic
BMW Standard Tools is the classic BMW dealer software package bundling INPA (diagnostics), NCS Expert (coding), WinKFP (flash programming), Tool32 and the EDIABAS runtime. It targets older BMW platforms — primarily E-series such as E36/E39/E46/E60/E90 — communicating over the K-line/DCAN or OBD using a K+DCAN or ICOM cable. INPA reads live values and fault codes module by module; NCS Expert reads and writes coding data based on the vehicle order (VO/FA); WinKFP updates ECU firmware. Independent BMW specialists and enthusiasts use it for retrofits, feature coding, fault diagnosis and flash updates where the newer ISTA/E-Sys stack is not required. It depends on EDIABAS SGBD description files and the correct ECU and chassis profiles to communicate.
These tools cover BMW's OBD diagnostics and coding; Softechpro sits downstream on the engine calibration, editing the extracted firmware to apply emissions/DTC-off modules and recalculate the checksum for reflashing.
