SENSORS

MAF — s Air Flow sensor

Definition

A hot-wire or vane sensor that measures the mass of intake air entering the engine. The ECU uses MAF to determine fuel injection quantity. Located between air filter and throttle body.

Why workshops care

MAF failure (drift, contamination) causes incorrect fueling. After intake upgrades, the MAF reading often exceeds the OEM table — Stage 2 calibrations adjust the MAF transfer function for the new airflow.
