Turbo — charger
Definition
A compressor driven by exhaust gas turbine that forces more air into the engine. Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) varies vane angle to optimise spool across the RPM range; twin-scroll uses divided exhaust pulses.
Why workshops care
Almost every diesel and modern petrol production engine is turbocharged. Stage 3 builds replace the OEM turbo with a larger unit (e.g. Garrett GTX35) and rewrite the calibration to match.
