Definition
An anti-theft system that prevents the engine ECU from starting until a valid transponder handshake completes between the key and the BCM. Mandatory on EU vehicles since 1998.
Why workshops care
Engine swaps, donor ECU installations, and lost-key situations require IMMO OFF to bypass the handshake check. Softechpro V5 supports IMMO OFF on common Bosch / Siemens / Delphi platforms.
