Tool comparison
SD Connect is the Mercedes-Benz diagnostic multiplexer, the vehicle communication interface that links a laptop running Xentry/DAS to the car's OBD port. The C4 generation connects over USB, Wi-Fi or LAN and handles CAN, K-line and other Mercedes bus protocols; the newer C6 adds DoIP/Ethernet diagnostics for modern platforms and can also act as a passthru device. It buffers and routes diagnostic traffic so the PC software can read modules, flash ECUs and perform SCN online coding. Dealers and independent Mercedes specialists use SD Connect as the hardware bridge for the full Xentry/DAS toolchain. Without a compatible multiplexer — SD Connect or an approved passthru — Xentry cannot communicate with the vehicle at dealer level.
This refers to using the Scanmatik 2 Pro through its SAE J2534 pass-thru driver so third-party and OEM software can talk to vehicle ECUs via a standardized interface. In J2534 mode the Scanmatik acts as a generic pass-thru VCI, letting applications like PCMflash, OEM reprogramming portals and other tuning tools handle protocol and messaging while the hardware bridges to the car. It supports the protocols required for modern flashing, including CAN, CAN-FD and K-line, and is a popular, affordable J2534 choice for tuners who want one device that also doubles as a full diagnostic tool in native mode. Correct J2534 DLL installation is needed for each host application.
SD Connect (J2534 Passthru Interface, Mercedes-Benz) and Scanmatik 2 Pro J2534 (J2534 Passthru Interface, Scanmatik) compete in the same space, so the choice comes down to coverage, workflow and price for your specific ECUs.
